New scam campaign that you should be aware of
October 14, 2026
We have been notified of a new scam campaign that is targeting clients of Toronto web design firms. With the use of AI, scams are getting smarter and it’s important that we stay ahead of them.
Scammers are now using AI to review web developers’ portfolios, identify public client contact information from their website, and impersonate the developer in targeted email campaigns. As scams become more intelligent, they may be using AI to tailor their emails to your specific website or industry. Rest assured that receiving these scam emails does not mean your website or email has been hacked.
It’s important to carefully review any unsolicited email. There are a few important steps you can take to ensure your safety:
- Always check the ‘from’ email address. At Simplistics, we will only ever email you from an email that ends with @simplistics.ca. We also encourage you to ‘cc’ your account manager whenever you reply to any email you receive from us.
- Never display any email address on your website. This is how scammers are acquiring your contact information. Using a contact form instead is the best way to hide your email from malicious actors.
- If an email seems suspicious, it probably is. Trust your judgement if the email signature looks off or the writing style seems robotic.
Please exercise caution when receiving unsolicited emails and if you’re a Simplistics client, be sure to only reply to @simplistics.ca email addresses.
