Top Web Design Trends in 2025

Since we are already in the summer of 2025, we wanted to share the top website design trends that we’ve witnessed at Simplistics Web Design within the past eight months.

Dark Mode Toggle

Over the last decade, flat white designs, which were mostly inspired by Apple, became the website design standard. Although this is a clean and elegant look, reading black text on a white background is harsher on the eyes.

We’ve received many requests to enable ‘dark mode’ compatibility, which involve inverting the website colours so the background is replaced with black or dark grey and the text is white or light grey. Some clients prefer a permanent dark mode, but most request a toggle so their website visitors can choose to switch the light website to dark.

AI Integrations

Since the launch of ChatGPT and the huge push in the artificial intelligence space, every website wants AI to improve their business.

We have seen a lot of positive AI trends for web design, like AI for chatbots which frees up human support staff and image generation so you can likely freely use images that display whatever graphics or photo you require without licensing concerns.

AI is not recommended for everything though. Many clients try to provide us with copy written by AI and this is generally bad for search engine optimization and usability. This is not a good trend, and we recommend that our clients strictly use AI to edit their copy, but not write it. Gradients

Just like with the flat white designs popularized over a decade ago, Apple recently reversed course and changed their style to focus more on gradients and smooth transitions. Now that gradients are what iPhone users see every time they glance at their phone, the design style has made its way to the web.

When used correctly, gradients can add smooth transitions between multiple colours that adds depth, energy and visual interest into any website design.

 

There are a lot of other trends that we saw emerging and gaining popularity in 2025, but Dark Mode, AI and Gradients were definitely the most requested and have vastly changed the way websites look today.
