Best alternative for Google Recaptcha
June 27, 2025
Google used to provide a flurry of free tools for your website, but these once generous offerings are now requiring you to open your wallet.
Google Recaptcha is a website tool that prevents spam submissions from your web forms. Along with services like G Suite (Workspace) and Maps which were all once free, Google is now transitioning Google Recaptcha to a paid system that may break your current website’s integration and lead to loss of sales, leads, and customer support.
You will have until the end of 2025 to migrate your Recaptcha license to a Google Cloud project with an active billing profile. Once you do this, Recaptcha will limit you to 10,000 free assessments, after which you will start paying a fee for every new assessment.
An assessment includes every time a user or a bot passes or fails the captcha, so a single user might use 3 assessments in a single visit if they fail the captcha the first two times. While 10,000 free assessments sounds like a lot, the point of a captcha is to prevent spam, so bots will likely use most of your free assessments.
As a free alternative to Google Recaptcha, we recommend using Cloudflare Turnstile. Cloudflare is a reputable company that focuses on fighting bot traffic, and their spam-catching captcha is the perfect Google Recaptcha replacement. It’s also free and easy to set up! At Simplistics, we have been relying on Cloudflare’s tools for over 10 years.
Please feel free to reach out to Simplistics if you would like to replace Google Recaptcha with Cloudflare Turnstile or need support moving your Google Recaptcha subscription to Google Cloud.
