4 Reasons You Need a Website
July 18, 2014
So you’ve been approached by a web designer to create a website. Hopefully that designer is us – they’ve clearly piqued your interested, but why do you really need a website?
Web professionals will tell you the answer is to be found online, to better represent your brand, to automate your business, to establish credibility… and the list goes on. But the main answer is to make more money!
There are a lot of misconceptions and assumptions out there when it comes to why and how you should build a website. Here are the facts:
Incredible Factoid #1: Globalization
The dynamic force in Globalization 3.0 – the force that gives it its unique character – is the newfound power for individuals to collaborate and compete globally. And the phenomenon that is enabling, empowering, and enjoining individuals and small groups to go global so easily and so seamlessly is what I call the flat-world platform. (Thomas Friedman, Author of The World is Flat)
According to internetworldstats.com 2,405,518,376 people use the Internet worldwide! In large parts of Europe, the Internet has been deemed a necessity of life.
The Internet has created a global market place that you need to take advantage of. It’s easier than ever for businesses to find new clients and make more money. The online market is the largest in the World, why not be a part of it?
When website developers talk about being found online, they really just mean getting your name out there to the World – not just your local market.
Today I can be in Toronto developing a website. Tomorrow I could be in Australia eating Kangaroo at a place I Googled yesterday. This is the power of globalization!
Incredible Factoid #2: The information highway
The Internet is known as the information highway. A 2007 study by Plunkett determined that 89% of people use a search engine to get information – 49% of people do this daily!
The Internet is a marketing machine. And if it’s not promoting your company it’s probably promoting your competitors.
There is an old adage that content is king. The more relevant information you pump into the Internet the more people you attract and the more products you can sell.
The other day I went to Subway’s website. It was a statutory holiday and I wanted to know if they were open. While there I found their nutrition facts right on the website. This is essential information I use to make an informed decision about buying a delicious Chicken Teriyaki sub from them.
Incredible Factoid #3: E-commerce
Remember those 2.4 billion people using the Internet? A 2007 Plunkett’s survey says that 71% of people buy products and services online!
E-commerce websites help showcase your products, prime your customers to buy, and make you money. The greatest part about running an E-commerce store is that the Internet never closes… it’s like Vegas on steroids.
They make you money, but they also save you money. You need significantly less infrastructure to run an e-commerce store than running a normal storefront.
Amazon is the largest e-commerce store on the internet. Their business is 100% online and they made over 74 billion dollars in revenue in 2013. This could be you, you deserve it.
Incredible Factoid #4: Automation
Your website works for you. Well you already know it’s up and running representing you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But it does so much more.
It can make appointments, offer your clients support, keep you organized, keep track of orders… really it can do anything! We’ve even built a web-to-print application for a local print shop.
Think about things you wish you could do faster in your business. If only you had a program that did this… or that… You’re website can do that for you. Saving you time, which means you are able to make more money.
